Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a clinical psychologist and a counsellor?
Clinical Psychologists complete a doctoral-level training programme (typically 6+ years) that includes extensive supervised clinical practice across NHS settings. They are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and trained to assess and treat complex psychological difficulties using evidence-based therapies. Counsellors may hold a diploma or degree-level qualification. Both can be helpful, but Clinical Psychologists are trained to work with a wider range of difficulties, including complex trauma, personality difficulties, and co-occurring mental and physical health conditions.
Do I need a GP referral to see a clinical psychologist privately?
No. You can contact us directly to book a free initial consultation. A GP referral is not required for private therapy. If you are using health insurance, your insurer may require a GP referral or pre-authorisation, so check with your provider before your first session.
How much does private psychology cost in Kent?
Our fees are £130 for online sessions and £145 for face-to-face sessions at our Tunbridge Wells practice. We offer a free initial phone consultation so you can discuss your needs before committing. We are registered with all major health insurers including BUPA, AXA, Aviva, Cigna, Vitality, WPA and Healix. See our full fees page for more details.
Do you offer online therapy for people across Kent?
Yes. We offer secure video therapy sessions for anyone in Kent and across the UK. Online therapy is as effective as face-to-face for most difficulties and gives you the flexibility to attend from home. Many of our clients across Kent choose online sessions for convenience, particularly those in areas further from Tunbridge Wells.
