Frequently asked questions

When should I seek psychological support during or after cancer?

There is no wrong time to seek support. Some people find it helpful at the point of diagnosis, others during treatment, and many after treatment has ended when they are adjusting to a 'new normal'. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If cancer is affecting your mood, sleep, relationships, or ability to cope day-to-day, speaking to a psychologist can help. We also support family members and carers who are finding things difficult.

What type of therapy do you use for cancer-related distress?

We use a range of evidence-based approaches tailored to your needs. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help manage anxiety and low mood, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) supports living meaningfully alongside uncertainty, and EMDR can help process trauma related to diagnosis or treatment. Compassion-Focused Therapy is also effective when cancer brings feelings of self-criticism, guilt, or shame. Your psychologist will discuss the best approach for you at your initial consultation.

Can sessions be adapted if I am unwell or having treatment?

Absolutely. We understand that cancer treatment can be exhausting and unpredictable. Sessions can be held online from the comfort of your home, and we are flexible with scheduling around treatment days. If you need to reschedule at short notice due to feeling unwell, we will always do our best to accommodate you. Your wellbeing comes first.
