About
I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years’ experience working in a variety of NHS services, supporting adults, young people and their families with a range of psychological difficulties.
My Experience and Interests
I have worked extensively within both Adult Mental Health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, supporting adults and young people experiencing a range of psychological difficulties including:
- Anxiety, including social anxiety, phobias and OCD
- Depression, including Bipolar Disorder
- Feeling numb, unreal or detached (dissociation)
- Low self-confidence
- Paranoia or fear of harm from others
- PTSD, including Complex PTSD and attachment trauma
- Self-harm and risky behaviour
- Sleep difficulties, including insomnia and nightmares
- Substance use difficulties, including excessive use of alcohol
- Unusual experiences such as hearing, seeing or feeling things others cannot (psychosis)
- Unwanted intrusive memories or flashbacks
I have a particular interest and specialist expertise in working with those affected by adverse and traumatic life events.
How I Like to Work
I endeavour to create a safe, trusting and collaborative relationship with my clients. Rather than asking “what is wrong with you?”, I prefer to ask “what has happened to you?” in order to understand why you have sought therapy. I will work with you to create a shared understanding of your difficulties, set meaningful goals and work towards long-lasting change.
The Therapy Approaches I Use
I work flexibly and collaboratively with my clients and draw upon a range of evidence-based approaches. Primarily, I utilise:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
- Mindfulness approaches
Additionally, I integrate concepts and principles from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT), Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Systemic Approaches.
My Credentials and Registration
I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hull. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and hold Chartered Status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
