About Dr Naomi Thrower

I am a clinical psychologist with over eight years’ experience working in the NHS across a variety of settings. I support people across the lifespan who are experiencing psychological distress and who are understandably affected by life events.

My experience and interests

I have supported people with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, panic attacks, low self-esteem and hoarding.

I also work with people experiencing psychological distress related to life events, relationship difficulties or challenges managing emotions and interpersonal relationships. For some, this means exploring early experiences to understand current patterns and develop new ways of relating.

How I Like to Work

It’s my belief that a genuine and trusting relationship is at the heart of effective therapy. My aim is to offer a warm, authentic and collaborative space where you feel heard and brave enough to explore your difficulties. I work in a person-centred way, drawing on your existing strengths and supporting you in identifying your values and how to live a life that feels meaningful to you.

Together, we pace the work so that it feels safe and manageable, balancing reflection with practical steps forward.

The Therapy Approaches I Use

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches to ensure therapy is tailored to each individual’s needs. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and have extensive experience with relational models such as Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT).

I also integrate ideas and techniques from Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

My Credentials and Registration

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester, and my EMDR training with EMDR Academy. I’m registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council, UK (HCPC). My membership number is PYL043138.

I currently also work in the NHS as a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist within a Secondary Care Community Mental Health teams and a Step 4 Talking Therapies team.
